Experimental Induction ofTumor-like Lesions

چکیده
During the course of some investigations of ex perimental lathyrism in salamanders, we noted and reported that, if the eggs of the salamander Ambysioma punctatum were placed in solutions of the lathyrism factor, the larval forms exhibited tumors of the notochord (2) . Since that time, no reports have appeared concerning the production of experimental ehordomas in other animals. In our original research we used a crystalline factor extracted from the sweet pea Lathyrus odoratus. Since then the chemical fi-aminoproprionitrile and other nitriles have been shown to be active lathyr ogenic agents. These chemicals were also active tumorigenic substances for the notoehord of de veloping salamanders and other amphibians (1). We wondered whether they would induce similar growths in fish.

The Induction of Rheumatic-like Cardiac Lesions in Rabbits by Repeated Focal Infections with Group a Streptococci
Cardiac lesions like those characteristic of rheumatic fever in man have been induced in a small portion of rabbits that were subjected to successive focal infections with group A streptococci of several serological types. Fresh myocardial interstitial granulomata so induced bear striking resemblance to Aschoff bodies, the histologic hallmarks of human active rheumatic fever; and the fresh and ...

Interleuldn-6 (IL-6) was found to function as a late-acting killer helper factor In the differenthtion of CTLs. In the model oftumor-bearing mice, the systemic administration ofrecombinant IL.6 was found to mediate the antitumor effect on the Immunogenic murine tumors via the in vivo induction of murine CTLs but not on the poorly immunogenic murine tumors In our previous study. However, an in v...

Marked obesity was induced in rats by feeding a high fat, egg yolk-rich diet. The obese rats were hyperlipemic and showed an increased incidence of lipomatous coronary lesions, but did not develop severe atheromatous lesions. Spontaneous vascular lesions of several kinds have been observed in aging rats. Among them, plaques containing a fibrin-like material seem to be conspicuous. However, thes...
متن کاملExperimental induction of rheumatoid factor and joint lesions in rabbits after intravenous injections of killed bacteria.
Rabbits receiving repeated intravenous injections of killed bacteria (Escherichia coli or Bacillus subtilis) developed IgM rheumatoid factor which reacted with autologous heat-aggregated IgG. In addition, 5/7 'Old English' and 7/8 'Sandy Lop' rabbits receiving killed E. coli developed rheumatoid-like synovial lesions. 'Old English' rabbits developed lesions of a more severe nature. Three of eig...
متن کاملDIAGNOSIS OF BREAST LESIONS USING THE LOCAL CHAN-VESE MODEL, HIERARCHICAL FUZZY PARTITIONING AND FUZZY DECISION TREE INDUCTION
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women. Mammography remains today the best technology to detect breast cancer, early and efficiently, to distinguish between benign and malignant diseases. Several techniques in image processing and analysis have been developed to address this problem. In this paper, we propose a new solution to the problem of computer aided detection and...
